Kaysville-Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend peacefully passed away at age 92 on Monday, November 11, 2024. Kay was born on December 31,1931, in Farmington, Utah, to Sherman L. Burton and Ila V. Hedgepeth Burton. Kay married her sweetheart Russell H. Gailey on June 21, 1950, for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple.
Kay grew up in Farmington and Kaysville attending high school at Davis High School. Her first job was at the Utah State Tax Commission. While attending Davis High she was set up on a blind date with Russell and the two were not to be separated. Early in their marriage they were stationed in San Diego while Russell was in the Marine Corp. and Kay worked at Oscars Restaurant. Throughout their life they lived in various cities across the Wasatch Front while raising their family. Kay was the bookkeeper and accountant for the various full-service gas stations that Russell worked as an auto mechanic. For a time, Kay also worked as a tax examiner for the IRS. Kay enjoyed spending sixteen years serving with Russell as a temple worker in the Bountiful Temple. Kay enjoyed boating, swimming, motorcycling and any time with her kids and grandkids.
Kay’s contribution to life served more than her family, in showing kindness, compassion, and love with those she encountered. Her presence will be missed, although her tenderness and warmth is now a part of each one of us that she has touched.
Kay is survived by her daughter, Terri (Alvin) Swensen, Layton; son, Russell S. (Becky) Gailey, Layton; daughter, Kay Lyn (Bart) Hunsaker, Clinton; daughter, Julie (Marty) Sanders, Kaysville; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Kay was preceded in death by her sweetheart Russell, and daughter, Laurie Ann Gailey.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of The Family Tree Assisted Living in West Point, Ut, for the love and care they showed to Kay. Special thanks also to Symbii Home Health and Hospice Nursing staff for the love and care shown to Kay in the last months of her life – truly angels on earth.
