Kay Maurine (Willmore) Muir

January 17, 1937 — January 14, 2025

Salt Lake City

Kay Maurine Willmore Muir, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, just three days shy of her 88th birthday. Kay was born on January 17, 1937, in Ogden, Utah, to Archie and Maurine “Molly” Robison Willmore.

Kay spent her childhood in Evanston, Wyoming, where she formed cherished memories riding horses, fishing, attending family reunions, and enjoying time with loved ones. A spirited and vibrant young woman, Kay shined as Junior Prom Queen of Evanston High School in the fall of 1954, graduating the following year in 1955. Her beauty and charm caught the eye of many, but it was Gary Rees Muir of Randolph, Utah, who captured her heart. Kay and Gary were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on June 5, 1956. Together, they built a life filled with love, faith, and family. Their journey together took them to Provo, Salt Lake City, West Valley City, Bountiful Utah; Cumberland, Maryland and her favorite place of all, their home in Bedford, Wyoming.

Kay was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She and Gary were blessed with six children:

Kim (Jim) Guymon, the late Lynn (Lynette), Julie (Mark) Singleton, Ken (Kim), Danny, and their special daughter Melissa. Kay’s greatest joy came from her family, especially the gatherings she hosted for Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve, where she delighted in the company of her 13 grandchildren (Eric, Sean, Brittany, Kylie, Andrew, Stephanie, Thomas, Tiffany, BreAnn, Kayla, Zac, Brayden and Tessa) and 17 great-grandchildren.

Kay served faithfully in numerous church callings including serving an LDS mission in Nauvoo, IL along with her husband Gary and daughter Melissa. She is an incredible example of resiliency, positivity, faith and courage as she led her family through the unexpected passing of Gary and her son Lynn. She met each challenge directly with a smile, a joke, and a positive attitude of “I can do this” never once asking, “why me?”.

Kay is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gary; son, Lynn; brother, Mike Willmore; and many other cherished loved ones. She is survived by her five children, thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Services to celebrate Kay’s life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the Bountiful, Maple Hills LDS Church located at 1320 East 1975 South, Bountiful, Utah. A viewing will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.

Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Cemetery, 1640 Lakeview Drive, Bountiful, Utah.

Kay’s family expresses their heartfelt gratitude for the love and support shown during this time.
