After five long years of loneliness and heartache, mom and dad are finally reunited and holding hands again. Kay passed away Thursday, November 13, 2008 at McKay-Dee Hospital from a stroke, at the age of 91.
He was born September 8, 1917, in Castle Gate, Utah, a son of Fukuye and Kichis Igarishi Sase, but for some reason he always celebrated his birthday on September 5th. We will never know the reason. Dad worked in the Spring Canyon coal mine in 1939 and was discharged in December of 1941 when the war started and all Japanese were instructed to move out. He caught a ride with another Japanese gentleman to Ogden to look for a job and finally found a job in a dairy in 1942 at (Paramount Dairy) which was bought out by Cream O'' Weber where he retired as an ice cream maker, after 37 years.
He met and married the love of his life, Haruyo Fukuda on January 17, 1948.
Kay was an avid bowler, fisherman and gardener. He never liked to eat the vegetables he grew or the fish he caught, he just enjoyed sharing them with his family, friends, and neighbors. Most of all he loved to go to Wendover and Las Vegas. After he finally lost his drivers license, he still caught the bus to Wendover once a month, with his son, Kay, Jr.
He is survived by three sons, Kay Sase, Jr., Gene (Jan) Sase, Kent (Cindy) Sase; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary, and brothers, Tosh, Joe and Jack. Dad was the last known Sase of his generation.
Dad always said, "It''s good to have a lot of friends, but, you only get one family".
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 17th at 1:00 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends and family may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 12 to 12:45 p.m. at the mortuary.
