Kay Elizabeth Rasmussen Vining
June 12, 1935 ~ March 8, 2018
Longtime resident of Riverdale City peacefully passed away on March 8, 2018 due to causes incident to age.
Kay was born in Ogden, Utah, on June 12, 1935 to LeRoy Wayne and Nell Evelyn Woods Rasmussen. Kay was the oldest of three children, grew up in the Ogden area, attended Ogden city schools, and graduated from Ogden High School. Kay was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was devoted in her faith with a very strong testimony of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Throughout her life Kay served in many callings in the church. She was a very loving mother and friend being watchful and caring for her four children.
Kay married John “Jack” Coates Vining in 1954 and moved to Riverdale where they raised their four children. Kay was employed with Riverdale City, retiring in 2000 and always cherished her friendships. Kay lived a full life and received much joy from her many experiences with her children and grandchildren. Those experiences were most treasured in her life. Her “one on one” with each grandchild for birthday and Christmas dinners and letting them pick out their gifts were special for her. Countless hours at special school events, ballgames, recitals, and anything the grandchildren were involved in were some of the joys of her life. She tried to make each grandchild feel special, and each has those special memories to cherish. Vacations with family at the happiest place on earth, DisneyLand, along with all-day trips to Lagoon, Hogle Zoo, and Magpie campground will be remembered as some of the happiest times of her life. Kay had some earthly joys that she will miss including anything chocolate, especially Milky Ways and Cherry Coke, along with soft cozy blankets.
Kay is survived by her four children, John (Connie) Vining, Linda (Rick) Black, Julene (Alan) West, and Lisa (Brian) Shupe; 15 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way; sister, Julie (Dale) Hunter, and brother, Rich (Ann Marie) Rasmussen.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 12, 2018, 11 a.m. at the Riverdale 7th Ward Chapel, 1056 West 4400 South. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
