Keiji Kay Matsumura

May 29, 1942 - December 13, 2021 (age 79)

Keiji Kay Matsumura passed away December 13, 2021. He was born May 29, 1942, in Ogden, Utah to Sam Shigeru Matsumura and Ellen Misayo Inouye. Kay grew up in Ogden and Roy. After graduating from Ogden High School, he attended Weber State College where he was the student body treasurer. He then pursued additional education at the University of Utah and graduated from the College of Pharmacy with both Bachelors (1965) and Masters (1972) degrees.

Kay enjoyed working and had lengthy careers in pharmacy as well as hospital administration. He served as a hospital administrator at Lakeview Hospital, Brigham City Community Hospital, Pioneer Valley Hospital and Salt Lake Regional Medical Center. He made many valued friends throughout his career.

Kay’s enthusiasm for work was closely connected to his desire to take care of his family and provide educational opportunities for his wife and children. In 1971 he married Geraldine “Gerry” Oka. This year they celebrated 50 years of marriage. He loved to travel, especially with his family. Every year he spent hours searching for and planning the perfect family trip. His pride and joy were his four grandchildren who never ceased to amaze him.

Kay is survived by his wife Gerry and his two daughters, Brittany (Kyle) Oldroyd of Montrose, Colorado, and Stephanie (Joel) Beal of San Carlos, California, as well as four grandchildren (Zack, Keira, Sam and Jack). He is also survived by devoted in-laws and nieces and nephews who will dearly miss their “Uncle Kay.” He is preceded in death by his parents, his two sisters (Sue Nakaishi and Ets Matsumura) and brother (Enji Matsumura).

A private family graveside service was held at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch on December 17, 2021.
