CLEARFIELD – Keith Clyde Brown, a life-long resident of Clearfield, Utah, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 11, 2008. Keith was born March 9, 1924, in Layton. He was raised in the loving home of his parents, Orlow and Ida Brown, along with his brothers and sisters: Carol, Mack, Ben and Joan. Keith graduated from Davis High School in 1942. Keith was the starting guard on his high school basketball team, which twice went to the state finals and won the state championship in Keith’s senior year. After school, Keith began work at Hill Air Force Base, and a year after graduation Keith married his high school sweetheart, Mardona (Dona) Bone. A few months later Keith entered the Army Air Corps. Keith was a WW II Veteran who served in North Africa and Italy. After the war Keith returned to work at Hill Air Force Base where he worked as a manager for 38 years before retiring in 1980.
Keith and Dona were married for 65 years, and were blessed with four children, 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren (so far). Keith was a supportive and understanding father and grandfather, and truly enjoyed family get-togethers that filled his house with non-stop chatter and laughter.
Keith will be remembered by his children for getting up early in the morning to help with newspaper routes, chaperoning scout outings and coaching the church basketball teams that they played on. The children also fondly remembered his patience in teaching them to drive (stick shifts!), annual vacations, popcorn and root beer floats on weekend nights, and their father’s love of Lawrence Welk’s Champagne Orchestra.
Keith was active in the LDS Church and served in many positions including the Clearfield 3rd Ward Bishopric. Keith was moderate, if not conservative, in just about all he did. However, when it came to others, he was surprisingly accepting and understanding of those that chose not to follow his conservative ways. This was a characteristic that endeared Keith not only to his family but all that had the privilege of knowing him. There was, however, one thing that he was fanatical about, and that was his lawn which was cut weekly and watered almost daily.
Keith is survived by his devoted wife, Dona, his loving children Wayne (Lawanna) of Riverdale, Marsha (Randy) Bates of Pleasant View, Craig (Jong Mi) of South Hill, Virginia, and Joyce (Crawford) Cragun of Draper; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as his brother Ben (D’etta), sister Joan (Ken) Dearden, and brother-in-law Dean Compton.
The family’s appreciation and thanks goes out to the dedicated care-givers at Rocky Mountain Care in Clearfield. Thanks also to the many friends that stopped by to see Keith while he was at Rocky Mountain Care.
