Keith D. Hess
Our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Keith D. Hess, passed away early Tuesday morning, September 13, 2011, following complications from surgery.
He was born January 17, 1919, the fifth child of Ezra John and Sylvia Hess in Fielding, Utah. He was a jack of all trades, and could fix anything with a little tape and wire! He was a decorated veteran of WW II, having experienced active combat duty as a member of the Army and Air Force. He served in the Philippines, New Guinea, Leyte, Mindoroa, and Mindakao. He was among the first troops to occupy Japan at the end of the war. He received the bronze star along with numerous other battle awards and citations.
He married Josephine Nalder in Layton, Utah on November 6, 1937. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on May 8, 1946.
He enjoyed gardening and always kept a well-maintained yard. Following his return from military service, he worked at H.A.F.B. in the Civil Engineering Department. There he performed repairs on the military homes, and later worked in the heat plant.
Keith is survived by his wife, Josephine (Jo); and daughters, Jolene (Richard) Thompson; and Geri (Jay) Fowers. He also has 11 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gene, Verlin, Francillo, and Darald; and sister Aneta. He served with his brother Darald in the same unit in the Army. Darald was killed in action during WW II.
Graveside services will be held Friday, September 16, 2011 at the Ogden City Cemetery at 11 a.m., where military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may visit family on Thursday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and Friday from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
A special thanks to the George Wahlen Veterans Home and Access Home Health.
