Keith Hayes Hufstetler was born October 30, 1943 to Robert Winfield Hufstetler and Phyllis Hayes Hufstetler in Ogden, Utah. He grew up in Ogden with his brother Glen and sisters Betty and Jean. He
spent many hours hunting and fishing with his friends and family. He enjoyed playing all types of sports and excelled at many of them. He graduated from Ben Lomond High School on a Friday and was in basic training in the Army Reserves at Fort Ord, California, along with 4 other friends from his ward Priest Quorum, on the following Monday.
He married Vicki Smith in 1962 and they had seven children, Lauri, Julie, Mikel, David, Becki, Dan and Ben. He worked for HAFB for over 41 years as an electronics technician. He spent 3-1/2 years in Okinawa, Japan as a civilian electronics technician. It was a wonderful experience with his family and friends. While there he was an avid scuba diver and says under the ocean is the most beautiful place on earth. He brought home many beautiful shells that he displayed in his home. He and Vicki were later divorced but stayed friends until her death. He married the love of his life Linda Cutler Passey in 1993.
They were sealed in the Ogden Temple. She brought with her four children, Jolyn, Melora, Damon and Tyler, who became his children by love also. He built two homes, one in Syracuse with Vicki, and the last one in Layton, with Linda, where they lived for over 31 years until his death. He did the footings, foundation, electrical, plumbing, roofing, rock work and all finish work. He was a Jack of many trades and could figure out how to do most things that needed to be built or repaired.
He and Linda loved to camp and were really into preparedness and taught classes on preparedness in five states. They loved to garden and had a huge garden they shared with many people. They spent many wonderful years vacationing at the cabin at Bear Lake with their family, and houseboating with friends at Lake Powell.
He loved his Savior and was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many positions over the years including many in Young Men’s, ward and Stake, as well as High Priest Group Leader and Preparedness Specialist. He and Linda served a mission in Nauvoo, Illinois for 18 months which was a highlight of their lives where they made many good friends whom they cherish to this day.
