It is with heavy hearts we announce the death of Keith Lawrence “Coach” Malnar, at the young age of 61.  Keith passed away from complications due to Covid on June 25, 2021.

Keith was born in Salt Lake City on April 25, 1960 to Glendon and Jackie Malnar. He grew up in Fruit Heights, Utah and graduated from Davis High School in 1978. He was known as one of the best all-around athletes.  He participated in football and track, winning many awards and setting records. After graduating, he attended Dixie State College in St. George, UT on a football scholarship, receiving his AP&P license and Associate’s degree.  Keith began his long career with Sky West Airlines while living in St George.  Keith loved aviation and was proud to be part of the Sky West family for 41 years. Keith continued his education and achieved his Bachelor’s degree in Finance with honors from the University of Utah.

Keith married Brenda Moran on Oct. 23rd, 1978, they later divorced. They had two daughters, Jenifer Malnar and Breannda Malnar.  Keith has a granddaughter Gabriella who he had a very special relationship with and she was the apple of his eye.

Keith loved sports and embraced the values and traditions of Davis High School Football and instilled these with all of the players he coached.  He coached little league football and eventually became the Sophomore defense coordinator and assistant varsity coach at Davis High School for 30 plus years. Once he retired from coaching he changed his focus and embraced his second passion to become an adjunct professor at Salt Lake Community College teaching aviation mechanics.

Keith was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he served in various callings.  He had a strong testimony of the Gospel and a deep faith that he shared with everyone.  Keith was also a true patriot with an unwavering love of his Country and became active in the Davis County Republican Party where he served in various positions and leadership advisory rolls.

Keith enjoyed fly fishing, tying his own flies, and fishing with his friends. He was a history buff, was a patron of the arts, enjoying musical theatre and the symphony.  He wrote poetry and was an avid reader.  Keith had a passion for travel, enjoyed all different kinds of food, and was never afraid to try Jenifer’s new recipes and provide critique.

His loving parents Glendon and Jackie Malnar, and his niece Goldie Rose Grosgebauer preceded him in death. Keith is survived by his two daughters Jenifer and Breannda, granddaughter Gabriella, brother Don (Lori) Malnar, two sisters Teresa Ward and Lisa Grosgebauer, and many nieces and nephews.
