SOUTH OGDEN a€" Keith J. Mendenhall, 80, took his last breath surrounded by his family at his home on Wednesday, March 12, 2008.

He was born June 28, 1927 in Preston, Idaho, to Thomas Alva and Mildred Jensen Mendenhall. He graduated from Ogden High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17.

On May 29, 1948, Keith married Shirley Hartley. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1964.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a Scout Master, Stake Missionary and Stake Mission President. He and Shirley served a service mission.

Keith was a hard worker, working with his father at the Mendenhall Equipment Co., later owning and operating Intermountain Tire Distributors, Inc.

He took flying lessons at age 19. Keith enjoyed being with his family, reading Louis L''Amour books and watching John Wayne movies. He loved traveling in his motor home, hunting and fishing, especially salmon fishing in Idaho and Alaska. He enjoyed listening to Glen Miller music and playing pinochle and bridge.

Surviving are his wife Shirley of South Ogden; five children, Shari (Steve) Sylvester, AZ; Debra (Ken) Iverson, Taylor; Tom (Kris) Mendenhall, VA; Cindy (Gary) Palmer, Clinton; Becky (Jeff) Olsen, Roy; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceding Keith in death were his parents and one sister, Faye Jones.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.

Friends may call at the mortuary on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday Noon to 12:45 p.m.

Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
