November 28, 1934 ~ April 7, 2016
Keith C Nelson, 81 passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 7, 2016 after a courageous battle from his returning pancreatic cancer. He was born in Glendale, Idaho on November 28, 1934 and was the son of Norman and Edna Nelson.
A pivotal event happened early in his life at about 18 months old in Glendale when he fell into an irrigation canal. From this incident he had spinal meningitis and lost much of his hearing. He graduated from the state deaf school in Gooding, Idaho where he began attending at the age of 5. After graduation he attended Gallaudet College in Washington DC in the late 1950s. He began working in Salt Lake City in 1960. He later worked at the Standard Examiner, the Newspaper Agency Corporation and other places related to printing.
In 1963 after putting a down payment of $50 he moved into a new house in Washington Terrace where he lived until his death. He enjoyed working with wood and was always a “do it yourselfer” when it came to projects around the home. He could read a book on how to do something and turn around and do it. Keith loved fishing and photography, being recognized with a camera always in his hands.
Keith was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Deaf Branch in Ogden.
He married Jean Elsie Newman on July 30, 1960 in Salt Lake City, Utah and they were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple in 1965.
