Kellen Joy Schlossnagle

Our beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Kellen Joy Orton Schlossnagle, age 43, passed away October 15, 2011, in Salt Lake City. She fought and won a valiant battle against cancer, but succumbed to the infection that resulted from surgery.

Kellen was born on March 26, 1968 in Ogden, Utah, the daughter of Gordon C. and Leone M. Orton. She attended Plain City Elementary School, Wahlquist Jr. High, and graduated from Weber High School in 1986. She attended Dixie State College and later obtained an Associate''s Degree in business from Stevens Henager College of Business. She worked as the school secretary at East Layton Elementary for many years, after which she worked as the Media Specialist at Buffalo Point Elementary School in Syracuse until the time of her death. Kellen had a special gift for working with children and she dearly loved, and was loved by, her many students and coworkers. Kellen married her soulmate Karl Schlossnagle, on August 19, 1991 in Layton, Utah, and they became the parents of two wonderful children, Russell Ray and Mollee Ann. Kellen''s family was her passion and she devoted herself to them completely. She faced cancer with the same fierce courage, grit, humor and determination that she used in facing all of her life challenges and she has left a lasting legacy of love and compassion.

She is survived by her husband, Karl, and her children, Russell and Mollee, Layton. She is also survived by her mother, Leone Orton, Layton; her brothers and sister, Terry (Hollie) Orton, Star Valley, WY; Jan (Gene) Tabish, Salt Lake City; Gary (Betty) Orton, Star Valley, WY; Brad (Charlene) Orton, Plain City; and her sister-in-law, Carol (Mike) Munford, Tucson, AZ. She is also survived by several aunts and uncles, many nieces and nephews, cousins, colleagues, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Gordon; her sister, LeeAnn; her grandparents, Grover C. and Clara Orton, and George L. and Alice Miller; her father and mother-in-law, Russ and Shirley Schlossnagle; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Kellen was our sunshine and we are brokenhearted by her passing, but comforted in the knowledge that her suffering is over and that she has been reunited with her beloved father, sister, and other family members who predeceased her. We love and miss her and look forward to the day when we are reunited as a family.
