Kelly Merril Smith
Layton a" Our devoted husband and father, Kelly Merril Smith, age 48, passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack on Wednesday, December 5, 2007.
Kelly was born December 10, 1958 in Salt Lake City to Gordon and Donnetta Smith. He graduated from Highland High School in 1977 and then from the University of Utah with a Bachelors degree in Business Management.
Kelly married the love of his life, JoAnn Marshall, on December 29, 1982 in the Idaho Falls Temple. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in South Sao Paulo, Brazil. He later served in other church callings including bishoprics, high council, and his favorite, Sunday school teacher.
He also sang with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir from 1992 to 1995. Kelly was blessed with the wonderful gift of music and loved to touch the lives of others with his talent.
Kelly found joy in his career in pharmaceutical sales, where he helped people with diabetes and made many friends.
He is survived by JoAnn and their eight children; Erin (Jeremy) Howey, Cory, Whitney, Brockston, Mikayla, Ivy, Zachary, and Sadie; his granddaughter, Ava; his mother, Donnetta Olsen Smith; his brothers Dennis, Donald and Mark; and his sister, Tammy.
He is preceded in death by his father, Gordon, and his brother, Lawrence.
Kelly was and will continue to be a light and guide to all who knew him. His greatest joy was his family. He dearly loved being a dad and was looking forward to years as a grandpa. His children knew how much he loved them, loved their mother, and loved the Lord and will forever call him blessed.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 10, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Canyon Rim Ward, 2435 E. 1550 No., Layton. Friends and family may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Donations can be made to the Kelly Smith Memorial Fund at any America First Credit Union.
