Kenneth Edwards
Born May 7, 1922 to Ellen Poole Edwards and Frederick William Edwards in Lyme Regis, Dorset, England. He served in the Royal Air Force during WWII and enlisted in the South African Air Force after the war and immigrated to South Africa with his previous later wife Beryl Elizabeth Hughes. When the Air Force disbanded its base in Durban he moved to Pietermaritzburg to resume his trade as a baker. It was there that he joined the LDS church and served in the bishopric of the local ward prior to immigrating to the USA, after marrying his late wife Betty Cook Edwards with whom he served a mission in Johannesburg, South Africa July 30, 1986 to January 29, 1988 where they were interviewed by the Crown to obtain permission for the church to proselyte in Swaziland and became its first missionary couple there.
Surviving are his son Owen Edwards, step-sons, Craig (Cindy) Thurgood, Roy; Stanley (Jackie) Thurgood, Hooper; step-daughter, Gail (Rex) Palmer, Peterson; 16 step-grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents, wives, brother, Leslie and step-son, Dennis M. Thurgood.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 14, 2008 at 2 p.m.
at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
