OGDEN – Kenneth Robert Erick, 70, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday June 15th, 2009.
Kenneth was diagnosed with lung cancer in August of 2007, and staying true to his stubborn ways, he fought a very determined fight for almost two years. We are very thankful for all of the extra time we had with him.
He was born April 23, 1939 in Long Beach California to Esther Erick Surgess and William Erick. Kenneth spent his young years in California and joined the navy after high school. He spent four years serving his country.
Kenneth moved to Eugene, Oregon and it was there that he met and married his lifelong companion, Sheryl A. Erick, on April 10, 1976. The Erick family then settled in Ogden in 1981.
He graduated from Weber State University with a degree in Manufacturing Engineering, and retired from ATK Thiokol June 1, 2006.
Kenneth had so many interests and hobbies. He had such a knack for woodworking, from furniture wall art. His home holds much of his talent. He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed fly fishing, camping, and traveling with his wife in their fifth wheel.
In August of 2008, he achieved a lifelong dream of traveling to Alaska with his sweetheart for an amazing two week vacation.
Kenneth is survived by his loving wife, Sheryl of Ogden, five children, Kimberly (Brody) Warren, Kristin (Ben), Brown both of Syracuse; Ronald Erick, Kenneth Erick, Jr., and Missy Erick all of California. Also surviving are three sisters, Shirley (Kenneth) Macke of Mullen, Nebraska; Beverly Saunders of Blaine, Minnesota, and Patti Murray of Boise, Idaho, and his father William Erick of McMinnville, Oregon and 16 grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his mother Esther Surgess, one brother Ronald Erick, and two sons, Phillip L. Clemons, and Richard Erick.
Sheryl and her family would like to thank a very special sister and brother, Ron and Carol Brown for their love and support through this entire process. Thank you as well to Dr. Carl Gray and his caring staff, and CNS Hospice especially to Robert.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 22, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friend and family may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
