“Together Again”

OGDEN - Kenneth Eccles Norton passed away peacefully on May 12, 2016.   Dad was 93 years young and lived a full and loving life. He was born on April 7, 1923 in Panguitch, Utah, to Merritt and Eliza Cameron Norton.  Dad was one of 13 children, the 6th child of his 12 siblings and the last to survive. Ken had great family memories of Panguitch Lake fishing with his brothers. Their family moved to Provo where he graduated from Provo High School in 1941.

Dad joined the military in 1943 along with five of his brothers and was part of the European tour spending time in Germany and France.  Dad was on one of the first boats to storm Omaha Beach in Normandy.

In 1951 Dad met Mary Kathryn Oldroyd on a blind date and they married three months later on January 11, 1952.  They spent 58 years together before Mom passed away on May 29, 2010.  Mom and Dad resided in Provo until 1960 when they moved to Ogden to start a new branch of Norton Fruit Company.  Dad later went to work for Ogden Chrome and loved the friendships he made retiring in 1985.

Mom and Dad loved to travel and spend time with their family and friends.  It was always a party no matter what they were doing.  We have so many fun memories spending family vacations at Lake Powell or parties in the basement.  After retiring, Mom and Dad enjoyed their adventures traveling in their motor home, it was truly Dad’s baby!  Dad was a member of the 719 B.P.O.E Elks and was Past Exalted Ruler.

Mom and Dad left a legacy of love for each other that they passed down to us children.  We were truly blessed as a family to have wonderful parents that showed us love every day of our lives. Dad’s motto was ‘Live Well... Laugh Often... Love Much’.

Surviving are their children and spouses, Jim and Cinda Norton, Tom and Liz Norton, Nancy and Norris Litz, and Connie and Harald LaPlant; twelve grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren of which Dad loved each and every one of them.

There will be no formal services, but a toast to Dad’s life will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 4102 South 850 East, South Ogden.  Military Honor Guard will be held at 2 p.m..  Refreshments are a definite!  Please come and share the memories of an extraordinary man.

In lieu of flowers, please take yourself or a loved one to get the Shingles vaccination.
