Kenneth L. Quillen, 93, passed away peacefully at his home in North Ogden, surrounded by family on Wednesday, May 3, 2023. He was born September 24, 1929, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Ernest Quillen and Nancy Mae Akin. After graduating from Ogden High School, Ken attended Weber College majoring in carpentry.
Ken married Carol Shurtliff, November 10, 1951, in Ogden, Utah, they were later sealed in the Logan Temple.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, he served in Denver, Colorado in the Air Police and in Korea as a bomb loader.
Ken worked at Anderson Lumber as a skilled carpenter until his retirement.
He loved camping, fishing, boating, hunting and training his golden retrievers for field trials; he trained many champion dogs and won numerous blue ribbons. He began watercolor painting later in life and amazed everyone with his beautiful artwork.
Ken is survived by his children, Robert; Mary Lou (Jimmy) Hansen and Linda (Chad) Blanke; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; a niece, nephews and his dog, Pluto. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Shurtliff and his daughter, Peggy Williams.
The family would like to thank the staff at Inspiration Hospice, especially Taylor and Davik for their care. We would also like to recognize Dr. Tyler Christensen and his staff for their many years of tender care for our dad.
Graveside services will be held Monday, May 8, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
Family and friends are welcome to join us for a Celebration of Life Monday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Ken’s house, 434 East 2175 North, North Ogden, UT.
