Kenneth Wayne Russell

Our father, Kenneth Wayne Russell, was born February 2, 1918 in Roy, Utah to James Alexander and Myrtle Field Russell. He left this life on Thursday, September 27, 2007, at the age of 89, of causes incident to age, surrounded by his loving family.

Ken was one of six children who had the opportunity to grow up on the family''s farm in Roy. He attended elementary and high school during the days when you walked or rode horseback. He helped run the family farm which supplied them and many friends and neighbors with needed food during the Great Depression years. Life was sometimes hard and often cruel but always filled with loving family events and adventure.

In 1944, Ken married Lelia Ruth Holliday and they were blessed with six wonderful children who also had the privilege of being raised on the family farm. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as a High Priest in the Pheasant Run Ward.

He provided for his family by working several jobs, often continuous hours with little rest. In addition to running the farm, he drove a delivery/pick-up truck for Paramount Dairy, picking up milk as far away as Tremonton and delivering it to the dairy in 10 gallon containers.

Ken managed the dairy''s ice cream department, still remembered by many as the areas number "best" ice cream.

He was an original member of the Weber County Sheriff''s Mounted Posse and together with his wife spent many years helping to build its great reputation.

In 1951, Ken was hired as one of two active Roy City Policemen when the city had only 1500 residents. He retired as Captain in 1980.

He spent over 17 years caring for his ailing wife, never leaving her side and always maintaining a warm, welcome home. Lelia passed away in 1991. Although his days were filled, he always found time to have a warm breakfast ready for his grandchildren on their way to school.

Ken was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one brother, two sisters and two granddaughters.

He is survived by his sons, Kenneth (Marilyn) Russell and Steven (Kathy) Russell, his daughters, Judy (Grant) Bodily, Lynnette Trussell, LuAnn (Mark) Anderson, and Julie (Bruce) Peterson. He has 23 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by two sisters, Marva Roberts, Norma Holstein, and his dog and best friend, Hagen.

Our father will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.

Friends and family may call Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., at the mortuary.

Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Merkley, IHC Hospice and their wonderful staff for their sincere and loving care of our father during the last few months. We also wish to express our deepest appreciation to Jenna Peterson and Shantell Lundin for their loving care of our father.

Because of Ken''s love of animals, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Utah Humane Society, 4242 South 300 West, Murray, Utah, 84107.
