Kent Dee Visser Goodrich, a beloved husband, father, and community figure, departed this life at the age of 78 on August 30, 2024, in Porterville, California, following complications from a stroke. Born on March 22, 1946, in Ogden, Utah, he was raised by his mom Vena Simmons and step-father Roy Goodrich. Kent's life was marked by dedication to both family and his profession.
Kent graduated from Ogden High School in 1964 and later attended Weber State, setting the foundation for a career that spanned several decades.
Kent married his sweetheart Sandra “Sandy” Nielson on February 4, 1966, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married over 58 years.
He began his journey as a Key Punch operator and subsequently became a tax examiner for the IRS. In pursuit of further opportunities, Kent accepted a position with State Farm Insurance, which led to a move for his family to California. He dedicated 33 years to his work at State Farm, where his diligence and commitment were evident. Additionally, Kent ventured into the world of rentals, knowing it would keep his wife busy and fulfilled.
Kent had a profound appreciation for the great outdoors, often spending hours watching nature unfold through his window. He found joy in exploring the beauty of the world around him, which brought him peace and happiness. Kent loved gardening and spent many hours tending to his extensive gardens, which served as a sanctuary for him.
Throughout his life, Kent achieved many proud accomplishments, including earning trips to Hawaii and Italy through his hard work and dedication. His ability to celebrate successes while remaining grounded in his values defined him as a person.
Kent is survived by his wife Sandy; 2 daughters: Michelle (Boots) Lanham and Stephanie (Adam) Skinner, grandson Ethan Skinner.
Preceded in death by his mother, 2 brothers Clark Goodrich and Richard Goodrich and 1 sister Janeen Hughes.
Kent Goodrich will be remembered fondly for his unwavering kindness, his love for family and nature, and his commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion and service that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Lindquist Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd, Ogden, Utah.
