Kerry Mamoru Shimada

Kerry Mamoru Shimada (54) passed away unexpectedly at his home in Layton, on Saturday May 4th, 2013. He was born in Ogden, Utah, on January 11th, 1959 to Kiyoshi and Noriko Shimada and was raised in Syracuse, Utah.

He graduated Clearfield High School in 1977, where he enjoyed being with friends, detailing his camaros, and had a passion for playing the drums. His passion and amazing talent for the drums far exceeded the expectations and even the ability of his teachers.

He married the love of his life Carey Rae Stanton on April 11th, 1987, and was happily married for 26 years.

Shortly after marriage, he began work in the car wash industry. From owner and operator, to independent consultant and handyman, he took pride in his work and was able to accomplish so many things. He was so determined and self taught himself everything he knew.

He was an extremely strong man who took pride in everything that he did. He always seemed to have the answers to your questions and was somehow right about everything. Even if we didn''t agree with his thoughts and ideas, we always knew and often said "Dad is always right". He taught us so many things that we''ll carry and remember forever. For those who knew him, you know that he loved to keep his vehicles clean. Even if you didn''t know what kind of car he drove, you could always pick his out of the crowd. He loved to polish and clean his cars, and you''d probably find more dents and dings on a new vehicle than you would ever find on his.

You could always see the joy in his eyes when he spoke about his family, and was a true role model to his three children and everybody he befriended. He enjoyed helping others, and took special enjoyment in helping his daughter care for her two hedgehogs.

People who knew him would describe him as smart, strong, funny, and someone who loved to play pranks. Whether it be a simple funny voice on the phone, or an even more elaborate plan, he always seemed to have something up his sleeve.

He is survived by his loving wife Carey, his three amazing children: Braden, Austin, and Kailee, his mother Noriko, and his sister Joyce, and many other extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Kiyoshi Shimada.

A memorial service will be held in his honor on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Saturday from 12:30-1:30 p.m. for a greeting session before the services begin.

His sudden absence has left a deep void, but the memory of him and his impact on this world will forever fill the hearts of the family and friends that loved him so very much.
