Kikue “Kixie” M. Oda
CLINTON – Kikue Matsumura Oda, 80, passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, April 30, 2009, while under hospice care.
She was born May 7, 1928 in Seattle, Washington, a daughter of Kurataro “Kay” and Shigemi Matsumura.
Kixie was uprooted during WWII and interned at a war relocation camp in Minnedoka, Idaho. She graduated from Central High School in Veradale, Washington in 1946 and attended Gonzaga University.
She married Jack W. Oda on December 2, 1951 and settled in Clinton, Utah where they farmed and raised four children.
Kixie had worked at Hill AFB for several years where in the early 1960’s she was responsible for recruiting civilian volunteers to build Hubbard Golf Course. In 1967 she left Hill AFB to help Jack at the Jack Oda Insurance Agency, where she worked until 1991.
She was a member of the Ogden Buddhist Church where she was active with the Fujinkai.
Kixie was a dedicated and loving wife and mother, the caregiver to her husband, Jack, and daughter, Staci, in their final days.
Surviving are her children and spouses, Curtis and Nancy Oda, Clearfield, UT; Shurie and Erik Burman, McKinleyville, CA; and Jacki and Doug Daniels, Galena, OH; grandchildren, Cydni Oda, Lindsi Gordon, Ryan Oda, Lauren Calogero and Kara Burman.
Also surviving are her sisters, Michiko (Miki) Murakami, Stockton, CA; Miyoko “Midge” Matsumura, Menlo Park, CA; and Tadao “Tad” Matsumura, Minden, NV.
Preceding Kixie in death were her husband Jack, daughter Staci, her parents and sister Toshiko.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Ogden Buddhist Church, 155 North St., Ogden.
Friends may call at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday at the Ogden Buddhist Church one hour prior to services.
Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
