Kim J Ono was born in SLC on August 4, 1955. His name was a play on words, so he added the "J" to defeat his father''s pun. Kim was precocious and a bit mischievous as a child, much to the consternation of his parents, Joe and Setsuko ("Sets"). He never completely lost this streak, having been personally escorted out of Disneyland after closing. He was 45 at the time.

Kim graduated from Viewmont HS in 1973, where he played on the soccer team, golf team and was president of the chess club. He continued his education at the U of U where he demonstrated a sharp and analytical mind in class and by helping his cousins through calculus chemistry and physics. Kim earned a BS degree in Biology in 1977, and a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1981.

After graduation, Kim worked for Boeing for five years, until his conscience caused him to rethink his career goals, and he looked to a more altruistic endeavor. Thus, he returned to school at the UW to earn his DDS degree in 1991. Not many can claim the distinction of earning two demanding, professional degrees in one lifetime. Thereafter, he practiced dentistry with his father ultimately taking over his practice upon Joe''s passing in 2001. The Onos served with pride as the Team Dentists for the SL Golden Eagles and the Utah Grizzlies hockey teams.

Kim was a lifelong sports enthusiast. He loved to fly fish along the Provo River, and wherever else they happened to be biting. He was a longtime season ticketholder for U of U Football, and enjoyed tailgating with his friends. To stimulate his intellectual interests, he was an avid reader often devouring three books in a week. Kim was a generous man. He generously donated his free time to providing dental treatments to the low income and Seniors. On weekends, he coached the DFC Vipers girls soccer team with his bff, Eric. Kim put his considerable math skills to good use at the blackjack tables in Wendover. Apparently he proved too good for them as three casinos saw fit to ban him from their tables. But Kim got the last laugh as he passed on 11/11, which all card players recognize as a double down to Blackjack - Blackjack and two unbeatable hands to go out on!

Kim will be greatly missed by his mother Sets, his sister and best friend, Josette, his uncle Kay (Jean), Auntie June, his beloved gambling buddies and Aunties Akiko, Ruthe and Ness, his cousins, friends and patients.

A celebration of Kim''s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 18, at Lindquist''s Bountiful Mortuary 727 N. 400 E. Bountiful. Friends may visit from 2:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the celebration.
