Kira Leigh Kilgore, 44, of Layton, Utah passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on February 6, 2021 at St Mark’s Medical Center.
Kira was born on February 26, 1976 in San Angelo, Texas to Glenn A. Miller and Janet Delanko Miller while her father was stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base. Kira was fortunate enough to have been an Air Force Brat. She traveled the world with her family. After her birth, she lived in Moscow, U.S.S.R. She left just prior to the 1980’s Olympics to head to Ft. Meade, Maryland where she tried her hand at T-ball but quickly found out that she was much better at making sand castles than being a second baseman. After that, she trekked across country in a camper with her family and visited many landmarks in the northern states on the way to Monterey, California. She loved all animals and even made friends with the ground squirrels at the Monterrey wharf. Some of the most magical memories she made as a child occurred when her family lived in Munich, Germany. She spent most of her formative years nestled in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps prior to returning to San Angelo, where it all began.
Kira graduated from San Angelo’s Central High school in 1994 and made her way to Utah in 1998, and attended Weber State University. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Lab Science in 2002.
She gained employment at Ogden Regional Medical Center where she met the love her life, Jon Kilgore. They formed a very strong friendship immediately and Kira instantly gained a daughter in Brooklynn Kilgore. Brooklynn and all of Kira’s friends and family patiently waited for 15 years to see them wed in Ogden on September 23, 2017. The love that Kira and Jon share truly transcends time, space and eternity.
Kira was a devoted wife, mom, sister, and friend. Kira was her sister Natalie Miller’s very best friend. They would always part with the infamous sister selfies upon leaving each other during their visits. They always took one “nice picture” for their mom but cherished the funny ones that always made them smile no matter how long it had been since they had last seen each other. Sisters by birth and by heart, they will never be apart.
Kira and Jon have built an amazing group of close friends who she considered family to include Mike and Meghan Mickelson and their son Drake and daughter Raychel, Roxy and Josh Hastings and their daughter Hadley, Eric and April Targa and their daughter Londyn and son Stelyn, and too many more to count. They made the most of every friend and family moment and made memories at every turn. She traveled with them from every corner of this land, from New York City, to Seattle, and Albuquerque, to Miami and so many points in between.
Anyone who met Kira had an instant connection, with her quick wit and spunk she could make light and fun occur in nearly any moment. She had an infectious snorting laugh and the cutest of all cat sneezes that seemed to have a life of their own. Kira was an effortlessly amazing cook, and could put a puzzle together with her eyes closed and one hand tied behind her back.
Kira had been an avid runner since high school and made many bonds with running buddies through the years. Her favorite event was the Ogden Half Marathon that she has run every year since 2013.
Kira’s idea of heaven was to lay in a pile of puppies. Jon was able to give her heaven on earth by arranging an afternoon of just such an engagement. She could not have loved the experience or loved Jon any more for having made it happen. Now Kira is in Heaven with all of her own puppies that crossed the rainbow bridge and is likely keeping the other rainbow bridge puppies busy, as they await for their owners to join them.
So many people who were blessed to have known her will miss Kira.
Kira is survived by her husband, daughter, father, and sister as well as by many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mom.
