Kiyo Shiohira Peebles
March 3, 1935 ~ February 12, 2022
Kiyo Shiohira Peebles, 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 12, 2022. She was born on March 3, 1935, in Izena-Son, Okinawa. She was the daughter of Hachiro and Guza Shiohira. She was raised on the island of Izena-Son, a village island north of Okinawa proper.
Kiyo met and married Robert Rulifson Peebles on July 17, 1957. They raised together three children, James Peebles (Nancy), Janet Wergin (Bruce), and John Peebles. Robert was in the U.S. Army and so began a life of travel for the Peebles family throughout the world including France, Germany, Michigan, and Florida. After Robert’s retirement from the Army (1968) they purchased a home in Ogden, Utah, and made it their forever home.
Kiyo had a great love for her family and would devote her life to their needs. She was a kind woman who never uttered an unkind word about anyone. She was always positive and was kind to everyone she met. Later in life Kiyo and Robert would enjoy watching sports on TV, spending time with family and traveling to San Diego, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania to visit friends and family. She especially enjoyed the yearly bingo Christmas party where she always seemed to be a big winner.
At the time of her death, Kiyo had six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and one due in May. She loved her family very much and was very proud of her rich heritage.
Kiyo was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, his husband, and son, John.
Special thanks to the medical staff at Davis Hospital and Rocky Mountain Care Center of Clearfield for the special care of our mother.
There will be a private family funeral and afterwards she will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Arrangements entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, please be kind to those around you.
