Kiyomi Kim Kawashima

Kiyomi Kim Kawashima of Ogden, passed away May 10, 2013. He was born to Kiyoyasu and Yuki Kawashima on March 16, 1926 in Onalaska, Washington, the youngest of four children. He married Kuneko Yei on April 13, 1952 at the Ogden Buddhist Church. They recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.

Kim attended one year of high school in Tacoma, Washington before being sent to Internment camps Pinedale, Tule Lake and finally Heart Mountain, where he finished high school. When Kim turned 18 years old in camp, he volunteered for the Army where he joined the All-Japanese-Training Battalion. He served in the European Theater during World War II and was honorably discharged.

Kim worked at Hill Air Force Base for 35 years as an Air Logistics Manager. Following retirement, Kim kept busy with several different part-time jobs. He enjoyed fishing and golfing and spending time with his family.

Kim was a long time member of the Buddhist Church of Ogden, serving for many years as a board member and treasurer. He also served as treasurer for the Buddhist Temple of Utah/Idaho. Kim started Cub Scout Troop 522 and served as Cubmaster, assistant Scout Master, and later as Scout Master.

Kim is survived by his wife, daughter Ruth (Ralph) Schriock, son Patrick Kawashima and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Sam; and sisters Shigeko and Masaye.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ogden Buddhist Temple, 155 North Street, with Rev. Jerry Hirano officiating. Family will meet with friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., both at the Temple. Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.

The family would like to give special thanks to Encompass Hospice, Mark Lindsey Dialysis Center, McKay-Dee Infusion Center, Dr. Seth Lewis, Dr. Adhish Agarwal, Dr. Harry Senekjian, Dr. Carl Gray and Dr. Dwight Rigby for their longstanding care and support.
