Kiyoshi “Kay” Shimada
SYRACUSE – Kiyoshi “Kay” Shimada, 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 1, 2008 at his home in Syracuse.
He was born October 12, 1922 in Ogden, to Taiji and Tomeyo Kanno Shimada.
Kiyoshi graduated from Davis High School in 1940. He served with the United States Army Intelligence Division from 1944 to 1953 with a special assignment to the security team. He received an honorable discharge in addition to many service medals.
While on his tour of duty, Kiyoshi met Noriko Sugimoto. They were married January 23, 1951 in Tokyo, Japan. They later moved to Syracuse, Utah to begin a family and a career as a Produce Manager.
Kiyoshi had a deep passion for gardening and for helping family, friends and neighbors when in need. His greatest joy was seeing his three grandchildren whom always brought a smile to his face. He will be deeply missed by all!
Kiyoshi is survived by his wife, Noriko; two children, Kerry (Carey) Shimada, Layton; Joyce (Todd) Shimada, Clearfield; three grandchildren, Braden, Austin, Kailee; brothers, Shige (Misuko) Shimada, Salt Lake City; Saburo (Mae) Shimada, Chino Hills, CA; sister, Hanako (Ted) Ando, Gardena, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and younger sister, Sachiko.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 3 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
Family will meet friends at the mortuary on Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m.
