Kristi Laree Thurman Buenviaje

November 1, 1963 ~ October 31, 2021

Our beloved wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, and friend, Kristi Laree Thurman Buenviaje passed away peacefully, with her husband, children, parents and extended family by her side on Sunday, October 31, 2021, after a heroic battle with extended illnesses.

Kristi was born in Ogden, Utah, on November 1, 1963, to D.L. and Jane Thurman.  In her younger years, she enjoyed riding horses, camping, water skiing, boating and snow skiing. She graduated from Roy High School, class of 1982.

She had many different types of employment in her life, including farm labor as a child and as an adult at her family’s goat dairy, and as a civil service worker at the United States Naval Air Station located in Subic Bay, Olongapo City, Philippines.  She also worked at a call center for America Online and as a reservation agent for Southwest Airlines where she took advantage of the free perks that Southwest had to offer. She also worked as a day program worker for handicapped youth and adults, located in Clearfield, Utah. Notwithstanding her health challenges, she also spent much of her time working diligently as a wife, mother and stay-at-home mom when possible.

She received the greatest happiness from her three children and seven grandchildren, and her thirty-four-year marriage to Joe Matundan Buenviaje.  They met and married in the Philippines.  She was the love of Joe’s life, and he was her lasting love.  She and Joe loved and continue to love their seven grandchildren and other family members.

She loved the extended Buenviaje family residing in the United States, Philippines, United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates.  She assisted many of them in their immigration to the United States for which they remain very grateful.

Kristi enjoyed Karaoke, travelling, ceramic work, cooking for guests in the home, playing a variety of games with the family, being outdoors with her children and grandchildren and the latest book by Danielle Steele.  Kristi also loved her dog ‘s deeply. She raised Lindsey, Duke, Conciette, Duchess and Bear Snuggle, her Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and German Wire-Haired Pointers.  She enjoyed showing her Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and she won many ribbons.  She loved traveling the world with her family and Kristi was always up for any new and exciting adventure.

Kristi participated in the religious meetings of the Syracuse 9th Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Most recently, she enjoyed her ministering visits from Patricia Gardner, Judy Keime, and many other 9th ward families, and our former Bishop, Rick Partridge and her present Bishop, Bruce Floyd.  She found scriptures that let her know of the eternal love of Jesus Christ for her (Psalms 23) and that He came to save her as he promised in John 3:16. “ For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, what whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”  It was her desire that all of the Buenviaje, Thurman, Newman and Willhite families, including in-laws, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and grandchildren, understand that she and they will one day live together again forever.

Surviving are her husband, Joe Buenviaje, of Syracuse, Utah and three children: Cody (Melissa) of Layton, Utah, Cherron, of Ogden, Utah and Brock of Centerville, Utah. Her siblings: DeLynne (Robin) of Roy Utah, and Brandon (Kim) Thurman of Hoquiam, Washington will also mourn her passing as do her parents, D.L. and Jane Thurman, of Roy, Utah.  Her grandchildren Christian, Braxton, Chloe, Brody, Ollie, Eric and Nichole will miss her as well.
