Kuneko “Kuni” Kawashima

Kuneko “Kuni” Kawashima, age 92, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2019 in Clearfield, Utah. She was born to Morikiyo and Toriko Yei on June 23, 1926 in Bothwell, Utah. She married Kiyomi Kim Kawashima on April 13, 1952 in Ogden, Utah at the Ogden Buddhist Church.
Kuni graduated from Ogden High School in 1944. She worked as a seamstress at 20th Century Sportswear before working in her brother Slim’s restaurant, The New Bamboo Noodle Parlor. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting. Kuni was a member of the Ogden Buddhist Church where she always helped to dress the dancers in kimonos.
Kuni is survived by daughter, Ruth (Ralph) Schriock; son Patrick; brothers, Biff and Thomas Yei; sister, Aki Nishi; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Joe, Sam, Slim, Kay; sisters, Amy Sameshima and Kazu Watanabe
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 8, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Ogden Buddhist Church, 155 North Street, Ogden Utah. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
The family would like to thank the staff at Chancellor Gardens Assisted Living and Encompass Home Health for their dedicated care, love, and compassion.
