Kurt E. Vicker
NORTH OGDEN – Our beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend, Kurt Eric Vicker, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 17, 2010 at Ogden Regional Medical Center due to complications of a subdural hematoma. He was surrounded by his loving wife and children at the time of his death.
Kurt was born November 15, 1956 in Harrison Township, Pennsylvania, to Robert and Grace Vicker. He graduated from Highlands High School in 1974 and Penn State University in 1978 where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Design Engineering Technology.
He married Carol Nowicki on October 15, 1983 at Sacred Heart St. Peter’s Church in Tarentum, PA. They have three beautiful children, Erika, Stephen and Victoria. Kurt loved spending time with his family.
Kurt was a Sr. Principal Engineer, Quality Assurance at ATK Launch Systems in Brigham City, Utah for almost 26 years. He was employed there until January of this year.
He was a United Way point of contact, High School Science Olympiad and Science Fair Judge and a High School Mini Olympiad Advisor. He was also the past president of the company Leadership Club.
Kurt was a member of St. James the Just Catholic Church where he had many friends. The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to Father Erik for being there for them in their hour of need.
He participated in the 2002 Winter Olympic Games as a volunteer. He later received his Jury license from the FIBT (International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation). He also served on the Materials Commission for the FIBT. His travels took him to Japan, Italy, Calgary, Canada, Vancouver, British Columbia, Lake Placid, New York and Park City, Utah. He loved what he did and all of the people he met who were involved in the sports -athletes and officials around the world.
Kurt is survived by his wife, Carol, their three children, Erika, Stephen and Victoria; Roxy, the family dog; his mother, Grace, Tarentum, PA; two brothers, Jim (Lauren), of Rochester, NY; Mark (Cindy), of New Kensington, PA; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Richard and Florence Nowicki, of Natrona Heights, PA; sister-in-law, Joni Campbell, of Natrona Heights, PA; brother-in-law, Rick (Sherri) Nowicki, of Havre de Grace, MD; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert James Vicker. Father and son have been reunited to share eternal life.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 22 at 11 a.m. at St. James the Just Catholic Church, 495 No. Harrison Blvd., in Ogden.
The family will meet friends at St. James the Just Catholic Church on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. where Holy Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
The Vicker family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses at Ogden Regional Medical Center who took such excellent care of Kurt and his family, especially Dr. Winters, Dr. Abel, Nate, Dratin, Amy, Kathy, Trish and Andy. They would also like to thank Sister Stephanie and Sister Mary for their spiritual guidance. The family also appreciates the kindness and compassion shown to them by other hospital staff, especially Sally Gale, Linda Thomas and the Food and Nutrition Staff. The family friends who came to the hospital to offer their love and support will never be forgotten.
