LaMar Porter Crawley, age 89, our cherished and devoted husband, dad, grandfather, brother and uncle, passed away, returning home to his Heavenly Father and loved ones on July 22, 2024. He was born on June 30,1935 to William Fredrick and Nora May Crawley in Kaysville, Utah. He grew up as a farmer and continued to take pride in gardening. He was the kindest and gentlest man, would share his abundance, and helped anyone in need. He was truly devoted to his wife Sharleen, who he has been married to for 63 years and his family. He was lovingly called “Grumps”, by his grandchildren, even then this was farthest from his nature.
LaMar was sealed to his eternal companion, Sharleen Taylor, on December 23, 1960, in the Salt Lake Temple. She was his world. She was constantly on his mind. He loved her beyond words and took pride in being with and taking care of her. They loved going on Young Farmer tours, to football games, going to the temple together, spending time in Uinta Lands, and traveling anywhere together. They raised four children in Layton, Utah.
LaMar was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many callings, including Cub Scouts, Young Men’s President and membership clerk. He loved serving as an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple for 16 years.
LaMar would help anyone in need. When he disappeared from home, we would find he was out helping or visiting someone in need. He was compassionate, kind, and service oriented, a true example of Christlike love. He was able to make friends and would talk to people wherever he went.
He could fix anything. He loved working in his garden, doing yardwork, leather tooling, indexing, tending to his goats, fishing, camping, BYU football and basketball, making cookies, bread, caramel popcorn, jalapeno jelly, and canning the fruits and vegetables he grew.
His grandkids were his pride and joy. He loved spending time with them. He took them to Lagoon, the fish hatchery, the park to feed the ducks, the pumpkin patch, baseball games, temple open houses, Christmas lights, Golden Corral for their birthdays, BYU football games and took them to Idaho Falls and Bear World.
He attended schools in Davis County, graduated from Davis High and attended Weber State College.
LaMar worked for Davis and Weber Canal Company as the watermaster, installed trailer hitches for Dick Adams and LeGrande Simmon’s businesses, was a welder at Freeport Center, retired from L3 Communications as an electrical mechanical inspector after 35 years, and Lindquist Mortuary for 10 years.
No matter what he was going through, he never complained.
He is survived by his wife Sharleen Crawley, his children, JoAnn Crawley of Taylorsville, Kaye Lynn Crawley of Taylorsville, Marleen “Marty” (Chad) Dalrymple of Clearfield and Jon (Carrie) Crawley of West Haven, five grandchildren, Ashley, Brittany, Cody, Bailey and Taylor. He is also survived by his sisters Eldora Gines, Isabell McCombs, and Sarah Sandberg.
We would like to thank all the caregivers he had from Atlas Homecare and Hospice, especially Ashley, Monica, Shanna and Carly who cared for him in his last days.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Primary Children’s Hospital.
