LaMar K Timothy Ph.D.

August 25, 1934 – September 7, 2017

KAYSVILLE – LaMar entered life on August 25, 1934 and completed his journey on September 7, 2017.  Ballard, Utah was the place of his birth to goodly parents, Weston Timothy and Mary King.  He spent his early years milking the family cow, swimming in the local reservoir and tending to the farm with his siblings, Laddie, Joyce, Elizabeth, and Luella Jo.

LaMar exchanged vows with the love of his life, Anita Larson, in the Salt Lake Temple on September 18, 1953.  Anita put him through college working at Hill AFB, to eventually earn his PH.D. from the University of Utah.  Anita gave birth to eight children, giving meaning to their life together.  They, in turn, produced 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and part of the Timothy Zoo are four foster children, Pyn, Elvira, Delana and Tom; nephews Eric, Scott and a niece, Tracy.

Over his career, he taught at the University of Utah and worked at TRW as a rocket scientist and L3 Communications as an antenna pointing/navigation expert. Teaching engineering principles/concepts and mentoring young engineers to think without using their calculator was "Dr. T's" passion, whether it be on campus or in the industry.   +/- 15% was good enough.  John Glenn "rode his poles and zeros into orbit".  He helped send the first man to the moon and, more importantly, brought him back. His subsequent work at L3 has greatly contributed to helping protect the lives of American troops throughout the world and those they protect.  He also helped others understand they were an inverted pendulum and figure out which way was up.

LaMar was preceded in death by his wife, Anita, his son, Mark and his second wife, Marilyn Fryer.  He is survived by his children, Chris (NaDine) Timothy, Dianne (Blake) Webster, Brett Timothy, Leslie (Melvin) Corpening, Alison Timothy, John (Andrea) Timothy, Laura (David) DiGregorio, and his stepchildren, Lynnette Harris, Brian Fryer and Douglas Fryer.

The family is very thankful for the patience and compassion shown LaMar while he was being cared for at the Avalon Care Center in Bountiful for the last several months.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Primary Children’s Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kaysville 4th Ward, 875 E. 200 N.  Friends may visit with family Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 N. Main St and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
