Lamont C. Ekstrom
November 9, 1930 ~ October 17, 2016
Our beloved “Mont” returned to heaven on October 17, 2016. Mont was born in Malad, Idaho on November 9, 1930. His family later moved to Ogden, Utah where Mont attended Ogden High School.
He married his love, Barbara Burnett, on February 28, 1948 and they spent 68 wonderful years together. They made Syracuse, Utah their home for most of their married life and raised three sons together, Dee, Dennis, and Kevin.
Mont spent his career working at Hill Air Force Base and retired as a Missiles Foreman. His sanctuary in this life was the cabin that he built with his own hands in the mountain of Utah near Monte Cristo. The cabin has been a source of relaxation, recreation, and countless memories for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The themes of Mont’s life were “never give up” and “always do the right thing.” He would help anyone and had a high reputation of trust. Those who knew him respected him greatly and often sought his listening ear and his wise counsel. Mont had a real talent for fixing things. He loved the challenge of figuring out problems and was a “MacGyver” of a different generation. He was very good at “striking a deal” and enjoyed negotiating the purchase of all kinds of interesting things. During the past several years, Mont and Barbara spent much of their time in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho operating their EZ Livin’ Inn. He loved his family very much and enjoyed every chance he had to visit with them or help them in any way he could.
Mont is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Dennis (Kay) Ekstrom; daughters-in-law, Jolene Ekstrom and Alicia Ekstrom; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and siblings, Robert, Maxine, and Ronnie Joe. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Wilhelmina; stepfather, Benjamin Wise; sons, Kevin Ekstrom and Dee Ekstrom; and siblings, Dorothy, Harold, Lorraine, June, and Billy.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
