LaNon Tucker Jensen completed her earthly mission on Sunday, February 25, 2024, a beautiful winter morning, appropriate for a woman who loved being out in nature. She was born October 21, 1927, a birthday she shared with one of her grandsons as well as a great-grandson. She was the third daughter in a family of seven children. Her mother, Lola Agatha Brady Tucker passed away when she was young, leaving her with no real memories of her. She was raised in a loving home by her father, Hilden Elias Tucker and her stepmother, Roma Stansfield Tucker.
Her growing up years were in Sanpete County. She had fond memories of her youth and learned the value of hard work as well as having fun. Following high school, she and a friend moved to Ephraim, Utah to attend Snow College. They moved into an apartment next door to the Jensen family. As it turned out, LaNon and her friend, Lola, became acquainted with the “boys next door” and ended up becoming sisters-in-law after marrying Richard (Dick) and Robert (Bob), the younger set of twins in the Jensen family. LaNon and Dick were married in the Manti Temple on September 11, 1947. She supported him as they pursued education and lived in a variety of locations. Eventually, they settled in Orem where they raised their children, Jerry (Kristine) Jensen, Susan (Doug) Murray, Jim (Rosemarie) Jensen, Becky (Kirk) Hanni, Angela (Alan) Larsen and Carole (Dan) Holland.
LaNon provided a home filled with love where there was homemade bread and hand sewn clothes. She loved being in her yard where she grew beautiful flowers and produce which was shared with family, neighbors and friends. She learned the art of cake decorating, and at the encouragement of her mother, she made her first wedding cake for her sister. That began a string of beautiful and creative cakes for birthdays and other occasions. She made the cakes for all of her children’s weddings, as well as for others in her extended family. LaNon loved to camp and be in the outdoors. For her 87th birthday, she hiked to Stewart Falls with her family. She loved music and sang in operettas, two different trios, ward choirs and the Chauntenette Ladies Chorus over the years.
Throughout her life LaNon served in her church through many leadership and teaching assignments. She and Dick served a mission in the Portland, Oregon mission. She especially loved her service as a temple worker in both the Mt. Timpanogos and Provo temples, ending her service at the age of 93 just ahead of the COVID-19 shutdowns, one of the things she encouraged and enjoyed the most was having her family in the temple with her. She loved her Savior and always remained on the covenant path.
Her final years were spent in Clinton, Utah, where she moved to be closer to family. Many thanks to Becky and Kirk and Angela and Alan for all of their support after this move. She enjoyed association with wonderful neighbors and ward members in both her Orem and Clinton neighborhoods.
She is predeceased by her parents, sisters, Vivian and Winona, brother, Paul, Husband, Richard, oldest son, Jerry and grandson, Adam. She is survived by five children, her brother, Owen and sisters, Joyce and Mary, 24 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and one more to be born any day.
The family is grateful for the care provided to LaNon over the last year by Cascade Springs Hospice and Sunridge Memory Care of Layton.
