Laramie Joel Johnson
Laramie Joel Johnson born October 3, 1984 lost his battle with epilepsy on December 13, 2017 at home in Kaysville, Utah. Born and deeply loved by Dawna LaRae (Johnson) Benefield who married James Anthony Benefield when he was 7 years old and half-brother, William Andrew Benefield, grandfather, William Richard Johnson “Papa” and “buddy”, Uncle, Darrin Richard Johnson “Uncy” and Aunt, Darla Yvonne (Sims) Johnson and many more aunts, uncles, cousins, great aunts and great uncles.
Laramie is preceded in Death by his “Grammie”, Rosalie LaVina (Shepard) Johnson, Donald Anthony Benefield and Mary Elizabeth (Pomeroy) Benefield. Dawna named her son, Laramie after a hero in a Zane Grey book.
Laramie attended Bountiful Junior High School where he met his lifelong friend Benjamin Naylor and his wife Jen. When Laramie made a friend, it was for life. He was a fierce protector of his family and friends. Although Laramie did not complete high school he was very intelligent, creative and meticulous about what he did in his life. He had many different careers, fast food, carpet cleaning, Construction, yard care and hanging Christmas lights, but his passion was concrete work. Both his papa and uncy made their careers in concrete and Laramie tried to follow in their footsteps. He got hooked watching Boise State University football while living with is papa and almost never missed a game. He would don all of his BSU regalia all of the time and proudly walk through a group of opposing team fans. His dad, James, worked in the automotive field and this gave him many opportunities to build skills and own many different automobiles like motorcycles, 1970’s Volkswagen vans, 1960’s Porch, 1980’s Chevrolet Camaros but his favorite was a 1962 Thunder Bird owned by his Papa. 2008 is when Laramie starting having multiple seizures. Although doctors found no reason why the seizures started and years of medications they became worse and greatly changed his life. He lived with William who took the roll of protector and sometimes the big brother. Laramie’s kind heart did not let him forget loved ones or his four legged family members. It was always a deep loss to him.
We have suffered a deep and great loss this year and pray that Laramie is with all who have gone before him in heaven. I loved you to the moon and back my son and you will always be in my heart. At this time we have chosen not to do a memorial but ask instead that each of you share a memory or two and pictures to remember our beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend.
