L.G. Bingham passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at McKay-Dee Hospital.  L.G. was born on August 15, 1926 in Ogden, Utah to Adelbert Willard and Mary Pearl Burton Bingham. He spent his early childhood in Marriott and Ogden, Utah, and Roberts, Idaho. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1945.  L.G. was active in the ROTC and entered the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a sergeant and trained as a gunner on B-29 bombers.

 He graduated from Weber College in 1947, attended the Uof U graduating from the law school in 1951 with his BSL, and Juris Doctorate in law. 

L.G. married Mary Ann Bihler on June 10, 1955.

He was a member of the LDS Church.

L.G. practiced as a criminal defense trial lawyer from 1951 to 1974. He was one of the first attorneys in northern Utah to become certified as a death penalty defense attorney. He was instrumental in the formation of the Weber County Public Defender’s Office, and also served as Deputy Director of Legal Services from 1974 to 1976.

In 1976 L.G. became a member of the faculty of the Weber State College in the Criminal Justice Department. L.G. loved teaching, and the friendships he developed with his co-workers and students. He served on the faculty senate, and as the administrative hearing judge. He was also very active with the Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) educating police and taught corrections throughout the state of Utah.  L.G. was privileged to teach for the U.S. Indian Police Academy and loved to trade stories with his students of the four corners region of Utah. L.G. retired in 1996 as Professor Emeritus but continued to teach part-time until 2003.

He enjoyed the outdoors and hunting and fishing with family. 

L.G. is survived by his two children and their spouses, Richard J. (Nancy) Bingham, and Nancy (Eric) Freebairn and 9 grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters Maridene Wilson and Darlene Rainey. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and three brothers, Delos, Delbert, and Robert.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 24, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
