Laren Samuel Hanney passed away peacefully on December 11, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was the son of Chris and Mabel Hanney and the brother to seven siblings. Laren was born on May 8, 1950, in Ogden, Utah.
He was raised in Layton, and attended Davis High School where he ran track and graduated in 1968. He went on to work for Davis County School District as a carpenter, for over 30 years.
Laren enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, fishing, boating, hiking and camping were among his favorite pastimes. He ran the Bair Gutsman race and made news in the local papers for racing a horse up the mountain. Although he didn’t win the race, he had one hell of a story to tell. He loved taking the horses and going hunting with his family and friends up on the mountain behind his house. When time allowed you could find him on longer trips camping and fishing in the Uintah’s and Yellowstone.
He is survived by long-time partner Reta Hamby Beutler, his son, Justin Hanney (Emilee), granddaughter, Kaylie Hatch (Matt), and great-granddaughter, Harlie Hatch.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday September 21, 2024 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Hanney residence, 3144 E. 3050 N., Layton, Utah.
Arrangements under the direction of Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah.
