Larene Estep Moncur Butters SOUTH OGDEN a" Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Larene Estep Moncur Butters, 78, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, of ovarian cancer. Larene was born February 10, 1929 in Burley, Idaho to Wilburn Estep and Emma Clarinda Wolverton, and graduated from Burley High School in 1947. She married Laurel Dale Moncur on December 1, 1946 in Rupert, ID; their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. She raised her family in Sunset, and lived for four years in Lynnwood, WA, before moving back to Ogden in 1971. Larene was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in several callings. She retired from Hill Air Force Base after working for many years as a Section Chief in Aircraft Services. Dale passed away in 1974. In 1988 Larene married Dean Butters. Over the years these "snowbirds" spent the winter months at their home in Apache Junction, AZ. Larene enjoyed spending time with her many friends and family members. She enjoying skiing, walking, and playing golf and Bridge, and always looked forward to reconnecting with friends at high school reunions. She talked fondly of her contribution to the 2002 Olympic Winter Games as a volunteer at the Olympic Curling Arena (Ice Sheet at Ogden), and found it to be a pivotal experience in her later life. She also enjoyed traveling and spending special time with her three great-granddaughters, Hailey, Taylor and Olivia, and always wanted to "give those sweet babies a kiss." Larene is survived by her daughter, Connie (Steve) Cunningham, Riverton; two grandchildren, Wendy (Robert) Martin, Reston, VA; and Amber (Anthony) Farinha, San Mateo, CA; three great-grandchildren, Hailey Martin, Taylor Martin, and Olivia Farinha; one brother, Lloyd Estep, Yerrington, NV; and one sister, Wanda Parkhurst, Baker, OR. She was preceded in death by Dale Moncur, husband; Dean Butters, husband; Michael Moncur, son; two sisters, Rinnie Fife and Clara Estep; and one brother, Woodrow Estep. The family wishes to thank Dr. Ross Morgan at IHC, Dr. Theresa Werner at the Huntsman Cancer Institute, and the staff at Avalon Care Center in Bountiful for taking such good care of Larene and making her comfortable. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 1 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may call at the mortuary on Friday, January 25, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturday, January 26 from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
