LaRene Hayes Steele "The nearest thing to Heaven that I''ve ever known"

LaRene Hayes Steele, 71, passed away Saturday Dec. 8, 2007 after a nine month struggle with cancer. She was born Feb. 15, 1936 to Ernest H. and Veda Sedgwick Hayes of Bountiful, Utah where she lived most of her life. LaRene was the third of four children.

She loved music, and was an accomplished accordion, piano player and sang with many groups, including the Sweet Adeline''s. She loved to sew, and made many beautiful quilts, many of which she gave away to those she loved. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, she served in many callings during her lifetime. She loved books and was a secretary as well as a librarian in the Davis County School District for many years. After attending the University of Utah, she became a flight attendant for United Airlines, flying out of Denver. There she met and married her husband Scott Roberts Steele. They had three children, Kelly McCullough living in Florida, Kerby Steele, deceased, and Kristen Tanner living in California. LaRene is survived by her husband Scott, two of her children, Kelly (Michael McCullough) and Kristen Tanner, grandsons Nathaniel Nelson, Zachariah Nelson, Mackenzie McCullough, and granddaughters Samantha Nelson, Tenley Tanner and Kirby McCullough, as well as her sister Marva (Robert Wood) brothers Darwin (Beth) Hayes, and Larry (Nancy) Hayes. She is preceded in death by her parents and her son Kerby Steele.

Funeral Services will be held 11 am Wednesday December 12, 2007 at the Bountiful 28th Ward Chapel, 2285 S. 200 W. Friends may call Tuesday December 11th from 6-8 pm at Lindquist''s Bountiful Mortuary 727 N. 400 E. and Wednesday 9:30-10:30 am prior to the services. Interment Bountiful Memorial Park.
