On Tuesday, October 18, 2022, Larry Curtis Ashdown-devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, valiant servant of the Lord, passed away at the age of 91. Larry was born on April 26, 1931 in Bountiful, Utah to Wallace Sessions and Norma Curtis Ashdown.
Growing up in Bountiful he developed a great love for the mountains, and he never grew tired of telling stories of his youth, his family and his many pets. He graduated from Davis High School and attended Weber State College before being drafted into the United States Marine Corp. He later finished his education at Salt Lake School of Electronics. He worked for IBM until he
retired in 1990.
Larry married his sweetheart, Norma Leda Hamblin, July 15, 1950 in Clearfield, Utah. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on March 8, 1951. They made their lifelong home in Sunset, Utah and together they raised a son and three daughters. They love the people of Sunset and the many friends they made throughout the years. He served on the Sunset City Council from 1982 to 1986 and then continued serving as the mayor through 1989.
He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many Stake and Ward callings. His favorite callings where those working with the youth and the many experiences he had with them. He always considered his time spent in the temple a great blessing and was grateful for the many years he and Norma served as ordinance workers in the Ogden Temple.
Larry lived a long life and spent much of it creating memories with his family. He never lost his love for the mountains and spent many years backpacking into Granddaddy Lake with his sons and grandsons. He loved the Christmas season and the celebration of Christs birth. He had a
desire to share the magic he experienced as a child with his children and grandchildren from hanging hundreds of icicles on the tree one by one, picking out just the right gift, singing Christmas carols over and over, and the fondly remembered yearly shopping trip with grandchildren. He will be greatly missed but his legacy of a life well lived lives on in his children and grandchildren.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters; Mickey Kitterman, Melva Kranendonk, Shirley Adams, a son-in-law Val Kapp, and his sweet granddaughter, Jenilyn Ashdown. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Norma “doll”, their four children, David Ashdown
(Kathie), Shelley Bertagnolli (Eric), Diane Kapp, Annette Johnson (Wayne), his brother, Robert Ashdown, 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
