Larry Giles Florence

September 16, 1935 ~ February 12, 2018

Larry Giles Florence, 82, passed away on February 12, 2018 at McKay Dee Hospital.  He was born on September 16, 1935 at the old McKay Dee Hospital to Leonard and Emeline Saphronia Hendricks Florence. He grew up in the Morgan Valley and graduated from Morgan High.

He worked at Marquart, Thiokol, and HAFB. Larry also helped build the trail up to Ben Lomond Peak.  He was in the Air Force Reserve for many years and retired as a Master Sergeant.

Larry married Evonne Barker on September 14, 1962 in the Logan LDS Temple. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a love for the gospel.  He served as a Bishop, High Priest Teacher, and many other callings including having served in the Eastern States Mission from February 1956 to 1958.

His hobbies were gardening and sharing the produce with his neighbors as well as selling it at the Farmer’s Market. He also enjoyed raising Honey Bees and selling honey, riding horses, hunting, and fishing.

He was President of the North Ogden Kiwanis Club several times. Larry served for many years and held numerous other offices within the club. Currently he was serving on the Board of Directors. He was also a member of the Sons of Utah Pioneers.

Larry is survived by his wife, Evonne; children, Kim (Debbie) of Reno, NV, Cheri Tyler of Syracuse, Ricky “Tod” (Joey) of Wellsville, Trent (Lindsi) of Elwood, Matt (Penny) of Murray, and Vickie (Dana Sauvan) Diamond of Roy, and Tiffany Florence of Las Vegas, and Holly (David) Blackhurst of Layton; foster daughter, Chris (Elmer) Smiley of Montezuma Creek; 32 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild with 1 due in May; and his sister, Kathryn Stain of Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents, baby sister, Lamar; brother, Sam in 2008; and Lana Chadburn in 2012.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the North Ogden 24th Ward Chapel, 1150 East 2600 North. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
