Larry Love Mitchell
LAYTON - Although Larrya"Love''s battle is over, we are reminded often of his courage, spunk and amazing spirit. Larry Love Mitchell passed away very peacefully surrounded by his family at McKay Dee Hospital on July 13, 2007 after a strong courageous battle with pancreatic cancer and COPD. Today he retired from being an amazing husband, father, brother and friend, and has set off to "Do More Work."
He was born May 13, 1942 the son of Lawrence Willey Mitchell and Dorothy Love Mitchell. He was raised in Layton and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He graduated from Davis High School in 1960 where he was very competitive and active in sports. He was Captain of the football team, an all-state wrestler, and ran track. This was amazing in that Larry had asthma, but never complained about shortness of breath. He went on to play college football, on scholarship, at Weber State College where the 5''6" 200 lb. guard had an awesome 4-year football career.
Larry married the love of his life Colleen Sanchez on February 23, 1974 and was blessed with two amazing children.
Larry retired from Menlove Dodge Toyota after 30 years of service, at which point he could always be found working in his yard. He was never idle in spite of his health, always had a job to do. He enjoyed gardening, keeping the lawn mowed in preparation of weekly irrigation, and taking care of his horses. Larry was an all around western cowboy. He loved the land and loved to ride his horses, attend local rodeos, hunting with friends, family vacations, and fishing with his brother. Spending time with his family was a very special part of his life. He was an avid reader and loved books about western history.
He leaves behind his wife of 33 years, his children, Lindsey Mitchell, Big Sky, MT; Morgan Mitchell, Syracuse; brother, Kent (Terry) Mitchell, Kaysville; nieces and nephews, Kate (Kurtis) Burr, Tad Mitchell, Brady (Marilyn) Koroulis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Joyce Koroulis.
The family will greet guests on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. A memorial service will promptly follow from 6 to 7 p.m. Cremation under the direction of Lindquist Mortuary.
Larry-Love, you will always be loved and missed. Happy Trails Until We Meet Again a" Go do your ''Work'' and be free of pain.
