Larry Wayne Redden
July 27, 1924 ~ March 21, 2014
Larry Wayne Redden, 89, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2014. He was born on July 27, 1924 in Ogden, Utah to Return James and Edna Redden. He married Barbara Louise Coulson in 1948 and they lived in Ogden for most of their married life.
Larry graduated from Ogden High School and served in the Army Air Force in England during WWII. He spent most of his career as a life insurance agent with Prudential Life Insurance and Globe Life Insurance and for many years served as the life insurance representative for Ogden City employees.
Larry loved the game of golf and played at least weekly with his friends, walking the course until he became ill last fall. His 15 minutes of fame came when he made the newspaper after getting a "hole in one" in St. George. He also loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening, camping, fishing, hunting, and panning for gold. He and his brother Jim hiked to the summit of Malan’s Peak, overlooking Ogden, when he was 84 as they had done many times when they were kids.
He made friends easily with his infectious laugh and sense of humor, and was known for his integrity, kindness and concern for others. His family will miss his guiding wisdom, his patience and his constant support. Above all, Larry loved his family and spending time with them. His greatest love was for his wife, Barbara, to whom he was married for 65 years.
Larry is survived by his children, Carol (Allen) Otterstrom, Jim (Masae) Redden, and Laurie (Jeff) Nicholas; his brothers, Jim and Lance; seven grandchildren and eight and a half great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death two weeks earlier by his wife, Barbara; his parents, his brother, Shandon; his sisters Barbara Alton, Ardath Braunberger and Cheryl Redden; and his granddaughter-in-law, Melanie Otterstrom.
