February 26, 1948- December 22, 2018
“And in the end, it’s not the years in the life, it’s the life in the years”- Abe Lincoln
Larry Dale Simpson passed peacefully, surrounded by his family at his home, after a heroic fight with a glioblastoma brain tumor.
He was born to Norma Mae Peterson Gibbs and Dale W. Simpson. Though he always considered Dudley Gibbs his Dad. He was raised in West Ogden, where his adventure of life began.
He graduated from Ben Lomond High School. He started at Hill Air Force Base and was then drafted into the Army to serve in the Vietnam War. When he returned home, he was rehired at Hill AFB and then obtained a bachelor’s degree in political science from Weber State College, while working fulltime, and raising his family. During his time served as a combat medic in Vietnam, he was known as Doc Simpson. He was awarded with 1 Silver Star and 2 Bronze Star medals for valor in combat.
In 1972 he married Helene Head and they had four children: Desi, Cameron, Tiffany, and Ashley. They later divorced.
He was delighted watching all his children find a love in the game of soccer and went on to referee, coach, and even play himself. He relished every moment spent outdoors with his family and friends. Enjoying: camping, hunting, and fishing trips to Big Creek and many other spots in Utah. He embraced the relationship with his children and always was available when expert advice, help, and knowledge in any field was needed. He found joy in caring for his captivating garden, auto mechanics, gold panning, and rebuilding/restoring 1972 Honda SL350 dirt bikes.
Larry is survived by his children: Desi (Rich) Hayda, Cameron Simpson, Tiffany (Mike) Tucker, and Ashley (Mark) Loveland; 8 grandkids, 4 great grandkids, his Dad Dudley, and all his brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Mae Peterson Gibbs: father, Dale W. Simpson; five nephews: Dean H.
