Larry Robert Yurth -Born April 25th, 1950 in Panama City, Florida to Gordon Revere Yurth and Barbara Ellen Dees, passed away in his sleep at Fairfield Village on September 10, 2024 after many years of battling various health challenges.
Preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Barbara, and his brother Daniel.
Larry is survived by his wife Marsha -Layton UT, son Jonathon (Melissa) – Layton, UT, and four daughters: Allyson (Jon Gfeller) – Moab UT, Holly (Derek Richards) – Tualatin OR, Kari Yurth ( J D Lauritzen) – Millcreek UT, and Andrea (Anthony Booyse) – Layton UT, and his brothers David (Claudine) and Martin and (Christie) Monroe, WA, and 14 grandchildren.
Larry wed and was sealed to his sweetheart Marsha on June 22nd, 1972 in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Larry grew up with his three brothers and was known affectionately as “Huz.” They were fortunate enough as a military family to travel to and live in wonderful parts of the world. Florida, California, Alabama, and Japan. And then to settle in Layton, UT where our roots run deep.
He served a mission in France and Switzerland for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from 1969-1971.
Larry and Marsha grew up on the same street in Layton, five houses apart from one another. They were good friends sharing neighborhood night games and other childhood activities. It was a magical time to be a child. This continued for a few years until he actually realized that she was a girl!
Larry’s college career in the beginning was with the goal of being a doctor, but then a science professor told him to go home and get married because he had broken too many test tubes and beakers. He was becoming too expensive. He began at that point to rethink his goal. He had realized early on that his heart and compassion would take some hits and he felt he couldn’t see people in pain. It would hurt too much.
From an early age, he loved to explore and figure out how the world works. So when he discovered computers, it was a perfect fit. His ultimate goal in life was to work for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was in heaven when that became a reality. He was ecstatic about being able to help create some of the wonderful websites the church uses today. He loved his work so much. Always, always just wanting to help and make a difference. He worked there for 27 years.
He and Marsha were blessed with five wonderful children who are the best humans on the planet. They possess his best qualities of love of people, attention to quality in the work that they do, and amazing talents out the wazoo.
We will miss most of all his special and unique sense of humor his smile, his HaHaHaHaHa funny laugh, his silly phrases like “You stepped on a what?”, “Probby”, and “Your face”, and “Care-ee ‘bout-ee you”. We’ll miss his incredibly warm hands which engulfed our hands completely. And the one, two, three squeeze that means I love you, which he practiced until the very end.
Larry’s last several years were replete with pain and sadness, stress and disappointment. But through it all he exhibited courage and strength and always had a funny joke or saying to lighten the mood and help people smile. He was never a complainer. He taught us strength and resilience and courage while still looking forward. Thank you for your best example to us of a good man.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Fairfield Village of Layton and Angie, Amy and Dalys of Inspiration Hospice for your tender care. You are truly angels on earth.
