"Together Again"
Laura Packer Ferrell
OGDEN – Our wonderful Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend left us and her home on earth on Friday, February 6, 2009 to be with her eternal companion, our Dad. She was 91 years old.
She was born April 15, 1917 in Franklin, Idaho, the daughter of Philando and Veressa Packer. Laura completed third and fourth grades in one school year and later graduated as high school valedictorian from Franklin High School in 1934. She attended LDS Business College and Weber State College.
She met Benjamin Herbert Ferrell at a dance at the Coconut Grove in Salt Lake City. They were married for 72 years before Herb passed away on August 19, 2008.
Laura spent her married life helping her husband in their business while raising their 10 children. She also worked at Club Heights Elementary as a school secretary for six years.
She served her church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as Primary President, Relief Society, and Visiting Teacher, and in many other callings. She was also an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers for many years. After raising their 10 children, she served as an ordinance worker in the Ogden and Philippine Temples. She and her husband served four missions together – two in the Philippines, one in Arkansas, and one in inner-city Ogden. She is loved by the many people she served through the years.
Laura’s interests included her family and friends, quilting, crocheting, reading, word puzzles and gardening. She made dozens of cherished hand-quilted quilts and crocheted afghans for her children and grandchildren through the years. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was an excellent cook. She created a loving home and taught her children the gospel of Jesus Christ through example and selfless service.
Surviving are her children: Dee (Vicki), Ellis (Larraine), Ellen (Leon) Whiting, Wynn (Paula), Kathy (John) Dunkley, Kim (Carma), Lance (LouJean), Mike (Joan), and Linda (John) Keller; 52 grandchildren and 108 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are her siblings: Ellis and Doyle Packer, and VaLoy Savage.
Preceding her in death were her husband Herb, daughter and son-in-law Kaye (Robert) Larson, two grandchildren and five siblings.
The family wishes to thank Intermountain Hospice, especially Jill, Heidi, Dawn, Jaynie and Nick, for their help and service during the past eight months. A heartfelt thank you to Anthony Bautista, who Mom and Dad considered their seventh son, for the love and help he gave the last week of Mom’s life, and to his sister, Maria Cassidy, who also provided love and support to Mom.
