Laura Evans Gale

February 11, 1924 ~ February 11, 2016

Our beautiful Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and very special friend, Laura Evans Gale, peacefully passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016 at her home on her 92nd birthday.

She was born February 11, 1924 in Arimo, Idaho to Laurence C. Evans and Mary Lucile Coffin Evans. Laura graduated from Arimo High School in 1942 and attended college in Idaho.

She moved from Arimo to Ogden to work at the OUR&D Railroad during World War II where she was introduced to Keith. Laura married Keith Eugene Gale in Arimo on January 26, 1946. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings in the ward including the Primary, Young Women’s and Relief Society organizations. Laura was the visiting teaching coordinator for over 20 years and served as a visiting teacher up until the day she passed away. She and Keith were faithful home teaching companions. Together they influenced the lives of many members of the Roy 5th Ward in addition to many friends, neighbors and other acquaintances throughout the years.

After her children were raised she worked at Lakeview Elementary School in Roy tutoring students for over 14 years.

She and Keith enjoyed 63 years of association with a great group of people referred to as ‘the Canasta Gang’. Thanks to all of them and their children for many, many years of camaraderie and good times. They also enjoyed Weber State athletics and were basketball season ticket holders for over 50 years. They loved attending the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. They looked forward to their annual trip of visiting their daughter and her family, renewing old acquaintances, and making new friends and cheering for the underdog.

Laura is survived by her children, Diane (Charles) Adams, Taylor, UT; Jeff (Kathy) Gale, West Point, UT; Greg (Kathy) Gale, Kernersville, NC; Mary Lu (David) Wheeler, Omaha, NE; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Carol Gale; and nieces, nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister, Helen, a brother, Kenneth and a grandson Tyler Adams.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at the Roy 5th Ward Chapel, 2100 West 5300 South. The family will meet with friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist's Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
