It is with great sadness that I inform you of the unexpected passing of our colleague, friend and work sister, Laurie Villalpando.  Laurie passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at the age of 59.

Laurie Villalpando was born to her parents Thomas Stark Johnson & Lucy May Johnson on May 21, 1963, in Bridgeport, CT. Laurie later grew up in Monroe, CT and Bedford, NH.

Laurie proudly served our country as a member of the United States Air Force in 1982 to 1990. She has received the Air Force Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Training Ribbon, and the Longevity Service Award Ribbon. Laurie met Andy Villalpando while on active duty, and was soon married in Las Vegas, NV on February 27, 1987.

Then in 1997, she set her career at Weber Basin Job Corps, which was previously through the Bureau of Reclamation and now by the US Forestry. She’s served most recently as the Administrative Officer and performed special projects for the Job Corps National Office.  Laurie was the heart and soul of Weber Basin, staff & students loved her, and turned to her in times of need.  Laurie was kind to a fault and always willing to step in and help those around her.

Laurie also had a great love for miniature horses and was very accomplished in that field, working as a judge for many horse shows in multiple states for many years. Laurie passion for horses started with the love of her first horse, ‘Chief Feather’, an Appaloosa horse. Laurie and her husband Andy also breed and raised a Grand National Champion Miniature horse. Together, they have 28 horses in total, 2 Chihuahua dogs, Gary & Chewy, and her two kitties, Sammie & Abby Girl. Overall, they were her children and her world.

Laurie is survived by her husband, Andy Villalpando of 35 years, his son Andrew Jason Villalpando, and their grandson Dominic Villalpando. She is also survived by her brother, Glenn Thomas Johnson, and his wife Gwen Johnson. Whom they have a son, Shawn Thomas Johnson, married to his wife Diane Johnson. They share children Amelia & Madelyn Johnson.
