LaVar Jay Williams
LaVar Jay Williams went into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Saturday, February 12, 2011 in Bountiful, Utah due to complications of diabetes.
He was born January 17, 1929 in Murray, Utah to Claudius Spencer and Laurena Melba Parkinson Williams. Because of his father''s employment, his family lived in Walcott, Wyoming and LaVar attended school in a one room schoolhouse. When he reached 5th grade his family moved to Rawlins, Wyoming. As junior he joined the Wyoming National Guard. After graduation his unit was activated for duty during the Korean conflict. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was Chief of Communications.
After his discharge in 1952 he went to work for AT&T during which time he met Illa Lavon Morgan whom he married for time and all eternity July 6, 1955 in the Logan Temple. He later worked for Mountain Bell and eventually became a microwave engineer. LaVar held various church callings, including ordinance worker in the Bountiful Temple and trainer of light and sound at the Bountiful Regional Center for 14 years.
LaVar and Illa are the parents of Gaylen (Michelle) and Sheryl (Kevin) Hansen and grandparents of Sherilyn (Chris), Benjamin, Melissa, Saria, Andrew and Stephanie. He is survived by his loving wife and children, grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, three nephews and two brothers.
Funeral services will be 11 am Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the Bountiful 33rd Ward Chapel, 51 S. Main. Friends may visit with family Wed. from 6-8 pm at Lindquist''s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. and 9:45-10:45 am at the church prior to services. Interment Bountiful City Cemetery.
