LaVarr Morrie Hansen

RIVERDALE a€" Our loving husband and father, LaVarr Morrie Hansen, finished his mortal challenges surrounded by his family to join his parents, 12 brothers and sisters and granddaughter in a sweet reunion on the other side of the veil, Wednesday, November 14, 2007.

LaVarr was born the tenth of 14 children to Charles Augustus and Emma Vilate Hansen on June 26, 1926 in Garden City, Utah. He grew up in Pickleville next to the beautiful Bear Lake in a rural setting of which he was very fond.

His family life growing up was never easy, but he learned to work hard and to be a son his parents could depend on to help them in any way possible, which he did faithfully until they passed away. He had many cherished memories of his childhood friends and his grade school years. Although he was a short man, he loved to play basketball in high school and other pick-up teams in the valley.

After graduating from North Rich, he met and fell in love with his eternal companion LaVaun Kunz of Bern, Idaho. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on April 4, 1946. Up to the day of his passing he told her daily how dearly he loved her and how she was such a blessing by serving him and tending to his every need. LaVarr was known as L.M. Hansen as he worked for over 43 years on the railroad for Union Pacific. He retired as a conductor in 1987. He was painfully fond of telling many, many detailed railroad stories about his work and friends. He was a lifelong member of the LDS Church, from his baptism in Bear Lake to the end as a faithful High Priest. Although he was faithful in all of his callings, he was exemplary in following the Savior as he served his neighbors. Surviving LaVarr are his wife, LaVaun; son Larry (Melanie), Riverdale; daughter LaRena (Lee) Folkman, Farr West; son LaMont (Leslie), Tremonton; 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, with two more on the way. Also surviving him are his younger brother LeRoy Hansen, many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and extended family members. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 20th at 11:00 a.m. at the Riverdale 3rd Ward Chapel, 1000 West 4400 South. His family will meet with friends on Monday, November 19th from 6:00 a€" 8:00 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Tuesday from 9:30 a€" 10:45 a.m., at the church.
