Lavern Bronson
HUNTSVILLE – Lavern Bronson, 95, passed away Monday, March 24, 2008.
He was born March 10, 1913 in Huntsville, the son of Arthur and Mamie Stromberg Bronson. Vern was raised in Huntsville and the family had a homestead east of Huntsville in Bennett. The family spent six months of the year at the homestead to make improvements to the property.
Vern attended school in Huntsville through the ninth grade. He went to work in Cedar Mtn. near Tooele and in Delta, herding sheep. He then traveled to Oregon to work.
Vern and Faun Allen were married on October 19, 1939 in Huntsville. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
In 1941, Vern went to work for the Utah State Road Department. He worked there for 25 years. He also worked on a large dairy farm in Huntsville and then back to the State Road Dept. on the oil gang and chip crew. He worked from the Bear Lake, Idaho border to the Wyoming border. He worked for the Dairy Farm and then Snow Basin where he hauled people and equipment anywhere needed. He worked for the town of Huntsville until he was in his 90’s. It was said that Vern Bronson was the only man who could hear it snow in the middle of the night. Vern would get up about 3 a.m. and walk to the town shed, about two blocks from his home, get the plow out of the shed and plow the streets before anyone was up. He loved this and said the town was beautiful at that time of night. He would plow a path for widows or older people who he knew were alone. He also worked at the Huntsville Cemetery for years.
Vern is survived by his wife, Faun, of Huntsville; two daughters, Dee Ann (Larry) Strebel and Linda Geary, both of Ogden; two sons, Kenneth Bronson, Warsaw, MO; Russell Bronson, Confer, CO; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Elmo, Doug and Dean; and two sisters, Melva Bronson Mack and Elaine Bronson Taylor.
The family would like to thank specialty nursing, Cindy, Ryan, Darren and Ben; Hearts for Hospice, Cage and Brian; and the town of Huntsville for all their care and kindness of Vern.
